PETERSEN MEDIA- Chad Boespflug will be the first to tell you that he did not think he had a chance to win on Saturday night in Putnamville after the race started, but as the laps clicked off, Boespflug’s car came to him and the Hanford, CA turned Avon, IN resident scored his first win of the season.
“We went green on Saturday night, and I thought we missed it,” he said. “Hats off to Paul Hazen and my guys, this thing was awesome.”
Starting third in his heat, Boespflug got off to a great start as he had his Phsyical Mediacal Consultants/K&N Entry on a rail, as he grabbed the lead, and never looked back as he picked up the win.
Lining up fifth in the feature, Boespflug got stuck on the bottom at the start as the outside row took off, and he began his game of catch up.
Working into the third spot, Boespflug used the cushion as he reeled in the leaders, and was rewarded with a yellow flag. Though he was on second’s rear bumper on the restart, the leader had a two-car cushion.
Getting to second on the restart, race leader, Casey Shuman, was able to get away with his cushion, and as Boespflug got close to him, Boespflug hopped the cushion, giving Shuman breathing room.
Continuing the chase, Boespflug was able to use lapped traffic to his advantage as he made a bold pass coming to the white flag to take the lead that we would not relinquish, as he scored his first win of the season.
Friday night, Boepsflug and Hazen were in action with the USAC National Tour at Gas City.
On a night that didn’t allow for the greatest racing as the track was sticky and fast early, Boespflug’s early struggles put him 18th to start the feature event, and when the race came to a close, he crossed the stripe in the 15th spot.
“It was awesome to get the first win so early in the year,” Boespflug said. “We had a really good summer last year, and hopefully we can do it again together this year.”
