Plainfield, IN- This past Friday night Chad Boespflug visited the Lincoln Park Speedway with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Cars for the Bill Gardner Sprintacular. Boespflug timed 7th quick out of 32 cars. The heat race invert placed him in a 5th place starting position. Boespflug was able to make his NineEight Motorsports /EZR Maxim work wherever he needed to advance. He stole the heat race win away from veteran Jon Stanbrough with a last lap pass at the line. The feature invert landed Boespflug a pole starting position for the 30 lap AMain inside 2015's USAC Champion Robert Ballou. Ballou got the initial jump on Boespflug at the start. Boespflug trailed Ballou for the remaining 29 laps closing in on the #1 as he made his way through lap traffic. A late race yellow hindered the run Boespflug had on Ballou. Following the restart the two raced closed nose to tail, but Boespflug was unable to make the pass to takeover the race lead and finished in 2nd.
Boespflug and his NineEight Motorsports / EZR Team are now gearing up for the start of the prestigious Indiana Sprint Week. Impressive car counts and tough competitors from across the country will fill the pit area beginning Friday at Gas City i-69 Speedway. The Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series will travel across the state of Indiana to compete in seven races in nine days. Boespflug had the chance to sit down with Brad Brown of RTV6 Indianapolis to discuss what ISW is to him and what one can anticipate this week. The clip aired this past Sunday but can be viewed below or via YouTube.
This stretch of racing falls in the heart of the Amsoil USAC National schedule. All races are held in Indiana, but there will still be a lot of road time for teams as this week sees teams traveling north for the first two nights followed by a trip to the southeast corner of the state for night three. Then two days off for teams to regroup before the five day stretch to follow next Wednesday. Wednesday teams will travel west to the Terre Haute Action Track then back track towards central Indiana for night five before venturing south again for night six and seven. A full ISW schedule can be found below.
"ISW is an intense week of racing against some of the toughest fields we will see all year. When we travel out of Indiana we typically draw 15 competitive cars, but this week there will be double the competition on any given night. Lately we have been good on the big half miles so looking for a strong run at Terre Haute. We have also been working on our short track game too. Coming off a second place finish at LPS I think we have made improvements and gains in the right direction to be in the hunt at the short tracks this week as well. Everyone will be on their A-game this week so we need to be as well. The team has been working hard at the shop to prepare so were ready right out of the gate." - Chad Boespflug
Wait there's more during one of the off days the USAC stars will compete in the second annual RMAC Softball Showdown in Indianapolis to benefit Riley Children's Hospital. An event open to fellow drivers, fans, family and friend will be hosted this year across from IRP/Lucas Oil Raceway just outside of Brownsburg, IN. If you missed the RMAC Softball Showdown last year you'll want to make sure you add Tuesday's game to your ISW calendar. The fun filled event will sure to bring lots of laughs, money for a great cause, and possibly another chance to catch Team Captains Chad Boespflug and Kevin Thomas Jr. in a pair of gold glitter high heels once again.
"The event was a success last year and I am excited I was asked to be a team captain again this year for the RMAC Softball Showdown. Of course it is fun to compete and gang up on fellow drivers by donating to the cause to make them look silly in heels or a wigs, but the more rewarding part of this experience is seeing the racing community come together for an event like this." - Boespflug reflects on what the RMAC Softball Showdown means to him.
