Plainfield, IN - As the USAC National Series headed west of Indiana for the first time in 2017 the first stop was I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska Friday. A strong field of traveling cars, some west coast regulars, and a few locals filled the field in the Corn Husker state. A 6th place qualifying run followed by advancement through the heat race Chad Boespflug put the Hoffman Auto Racing Mean Green Cleaner 69 into the show. The feature inversion was in Boespflug's favor as he would set the pace from the pole position. The invert may have fell to his advantage, but as he fought a tight race car right from the start Boespflug was unable to capitalized on the good starting position and began to fall back early. Unable to recover the lost ground Boespflug finished 12th in the AMain.
Entering Saturday with the attitude "today is a new day" is just what Boespflug and the HAR team did. A fresh start and a new game plan was set as Boespflug would make his first career start at the historic Knoxville Raceway located in the Sprint Car Capitol of the World, Knoxville, Iowa. He laid a lap down quick enough to hold on for 4th quick in ProSource Qualifying out of 35 strong competitors. Advancing through heat race competition straight into the AMain passing his way from 6th to 3rd Boespflug found himself once again in the feature invert. Boespflug and Crew Chief Davey Jones made the changes needed to keep the Mean Green 69 up front for all 30 laps. Starting and finishing 3rd Boespflug earned another USAC National podium finish in the series' first return to Knoxville Raceway since 2011.
"Another podium finish is just what this team needed. We have been in a slump as the results have shown over the past few races. Struggling to capitalized when it matters most, in the mains. Saturday's 3rd place finish at Knoxville was a great way to bounce back after finishing outside of the top 10 again at I-80 Friday. I look forward to hopefully traveling back to both I-80 and Knoxville with USAC next year. Now as we move forward into our "busy season" we need to regain that consistency as a team. We will race a few local races during Indiana Midget Week starting with Lincoln Park Speedway to work out any more kinks in our program before we travel east for 5 nights in Pennsylvania." - Chad Boespflug
