Boespflug To Make Midget Debut At Chili Bowl

PETERSEN MEDIA- After having a very strong year in the sprint car ranks, Hanford, CA driver, Chad Boespflug is excited to make his midget debut at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals aboard one of Bill Ecker’s RAB Racing entries.

“I am very excited to get behind the wheel of a midget at the Chili Bowl,” Boespflug said. “It is something I've’ve always wanted to do, and I am really looking forward to getting to Tulsa, and shaking them down.”

The RAB Racing team had a very strong 2013 as they picked up the prestigious Kokomo Klash with midget ace, Shane Cottle behind the wheel, and over the course of the year, Brad Kuhn piloted their machine to the 2013 Badger Series Championship.

“The team had a great 2013, and I'm hoping I can make them proud at the Chili Bowl, and hopefully do some more midget racing in 2014,” Boespflug said.

Boespflug will be at the Tulsa Expo Center on Monday, January 13th 2014 to shake down his entry, and will either be in action for his preliminary night on the 14th of 15th.

The above picture is the back of the shirt that Boespflug will have for purchase all week long at his teams pit, and will also have hoodies, hats, and cozies for sale, so stop by and pick up some new merchandise.

Boespflug Knocked out of Kokomo Smackdown Early

PETERSEN MEDIA- Chad Boespflug had a great car and plenty of speed during the Kokomo Smack Down, but engine issues ultimately knocked him out of action on Saturday night while running in the top-five.

“All weekend long we had a pretty good car, and it was disappointing for our weekend to end on Saturday night the way it did,” Boespflug said.

Kicking off the busy weekend on Thursday night, Boespflug timed the Paul Hazen No. 57 in fourth fastest with a lap time of 12.916 seconds.

Starting sixth in his heat, Boespflug was able to score a fourth place finish, putting him fifth in the preliminary night feature event.

When the feature started, Boepsflug had a rough start, but the Hanford, CA native rebounded and scored a top-10 finish.

Friday night, Boespflug was the first driver on the clock, and laid down a lap of 12.863 seconds, and ended up timing in fifth fastest overall.

Lining up fifth in his heat, Boespflug hooked up in an entertaining battle with Dave Darland for the final transfer spot, but as they exchanged blows, Boespflug made contact with another car, and he lost the handle, and wound up scoring a seventh place finish.

Starting third in the B, Boespflug held on to score a fifth place finish, putting him in the fourth row of the feature event.

After some track work, the main event rolled onto the speedway, and Boespflug’s machine did not like the newly worked track, and he ultimately slip back to an 11th place finish, but he found himself fifth in weekend points.

“We had such a good car all night, it was disappointing to struggle like we did in the feature,” he said. “Fortuatnely we were locked into the main, and were in the ‘King of the Hill’ on Saturday night to set the top eight starting positions.

After taking part in the Kokomo Kick it For Kid’s Cancer event, Boespflug defeated Robert Ballou in his first match, and wound up losing to Dave Darland in his second round match, and lined up for the feature event in the fourth spot.

When the race went green, the current Avon, IN resident jumped to the top of the speedway as he found the cushion to his liking, and got past Brady Bacon and Chase Stockton to over take the second spot, with his sites set on Darland.

Though he couldn’t seem to get up to Darland, he was able to keep Darland is shouting distance until the yellow flew on lap six.

The restart saw Boespflug hold the second spot for three laps, until he slipped to third as Shane Cottle overtook him for the second spot on the eighth lap.

With Brady Bacon now battling with him for the third spot, the caution waived on the 15th lap.

Under the yellow, Boespflug noticed his right-rear tire was going low, and as he attempted to buzz his tires to keep air pressure built up, he noticed he had engine woes, and he pulled in, ending his night.

“It was definitely a tough way to end out weekend, but we know we ha a good car all weekend long,” he said.

ON TAP: Chad will be in action at the I 69 Speedway in Gas City, IN on Friday night before catching an early flight Saturday morning to compete in the Louis Vermeil Classic at the Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA.

Chad Boespflug Returns Home For Louie Vermeil Classic and Gold Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- For the second year in a row, Hanford, CA native Chad Boespflug is excited to head home for the Labor Day Weekend to compete in a pair of events in his native California, The Louie Vermeil Classic in Calistoga, CA, and the USAC event on Thursday night at the Gold Cup Race of Champion in Chico, CA.

“I am very excited to be heading home to California for a few days,” he said. “I ran these two events last year, and had a blast, and really did all I could to find a ride to make sure I could return.”

Boespflug will team up with long time car owner, Dave Vertullo, and pilot the Vertullo/Pierson, A.R.T./CSI/Starr Property Management backed entry for both events.

“I can’t thank Dave Vertullo and his family enough for this chance,” he said. “I know he has great equipment, and this car won a handful of non-wing races last year, so I’m really hoping to grab him a couple more.”

Boespflug is in the midst of a career summer as he has pocketed six wins in Indiana, including his first career USAC National Sprint win, and hopes to add to that total in California.

“Last year I was fortunate enough to team with Dustin Baxter and ran second and fourth at Calistoga,” Boespflug said. “And at Chico, I ran battled with Kyle Larson for a while before slipping back to sixth, so I am really looking forward to getting out West for a few days.”

Boespflug will compete in the two events in California, before jetting back to Indiana on Friday to continue his season back in Indiana.

“It will be a busy week, but I am very excited for it, and thankful for all of my opportunities,” he added.

Other sponsors on the Vertullo/Pierson No. 14 for the weekend include, Butlerbuilt, Bell Helmets, Hinchman Indy, and Midwest Shades.

New Ride, Same Result, Boespflug Wins Again

PETERSEN MEDIA- After taking a wild ride in Paul Hazen’s No.57 on Friday night in Gas City, IN, Chad Boespflug hopped aboard the SST Motorsports No.41 in Putnamville on Saturday night and scored another win, in what has been a dominant Summer for the California transplant.

“We had a mishap on Friday night, and I really can’t thank the Stensland’s enough for giving me the opportunity to drive their car on Saturday,” Boespflug said.

Friday night at I 69 Speedway wasn’t all bad for Boespflug, as his night started with him charging from his seventh starting spot in heat race action to score the win, putting him on the pole of the feature event.

Starting alongside AJ Hopkins, Boespflug lost the race into turn one, and as he looked for real estate to get around him, he slipped to the third spot, as Darland, who was piloting the SST Motorsports No. 41 machine, snuck past him.

Looking to get around Darland on the high-side, Boespflug smoked the cushion, and upset his machine. Saving it as it bicycled, the car came down, and as the left side hit the ground, Boespflug was off for a pretty good ride, causing severe damage to the Hazen No.57, and looked like Boespflug’s weekend was over.

“I though I had it saved, but it came down, and off I went,” he explained. “It is getting a front clip put on it, and it will be ready for the Kokomo Smackdown.”

After Darland picked up the victory, Dave Stensland, the SST motorsports team owner, approached Chad about racing for them Saturday night as Darland had other commitments.

Boespflug unbolted his seat, and met up with the new team on Saturday night at the speedway.

Starting second in his heat again, Boespflug adapted well to the new car, as he worked his way up to a second place finish, and as fate would have it, he found himself on the pole again.

Sharing the front row with Casey Shuman, Boespflug got the jump, but Shuman stayed in shouting distance, as the duo battled for a pair of laps.

With Boespflug finding the high-side to his liking, he quickly distanced himself from Shuman and the rest of the field, as he had the race in command from flag to flag.

When it was all over, Boespflug found himself in victory lane, again, as he was able to lap up to 10th place.

“It is a great feeling to come back and win with the Stensland’s,” he said. “We set out just to have a fun night of racing, and it turned in to much more than that. I am so happy, and am looking to get the 57 in victory lane next weekend.”

Boespflug Retakes Gas City Point Lead

PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking to keep a very hot summer going, Chad Boespflug scored a seventh place on Friday night at the I 69 Speedway in Gas City, IN, before scoring a fifth place finish at the Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, IN on Saturday night.

“Overall we had a great weekend, and ended up taking the point lead back over at I 69,” Boespflug said.

Back in the Paul Hazen No. 57, Boespflug lined up for Friday night’s feature in the 12th spot, and hoped he could duplicate last weeks charge to the front.

On the third lap, Boespflug picked up a vibration in his engine, and opted to back off just a touch, to save his equipment.

By the 5th lap, Boespflug had made it up to the seventh spot, and continued to just make laps, and not force any issues.

Hoping to make it to the finish, Boespflug held on to his seventh spot, and was able to take over the track point lead in doing so.

“Friday night, we had a good car, but when I got the vibration, I just took it easy, as we are not the most funded team, and did not want to cause any catastrophic damage to our engine,” he explained.

Heading to Putnamville, IN on Saturday, Boespflug rolled off for the feature in the 10th spot, and had a great start to the feature, that saw the Hanford, CA native, make some daring moves, and jump into the top-five.

Looking for more, Boespflug looked at the third spot, and has he went for it, the car he was working on, bobbled and got out of shape, forcing him to check up, and fall back to the fifth spot.

Trying to get back to the fourth spot, Boespflug tried a pair of slide-jobs, but was unable to make anything stick, and he settled for a fifth place finish.

“We have been running really well the last few weeks, and I am excited to race this car on a weekly basis,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep this up, and even pick up a couple of more feature event wins.”

#5

PETERSEN MEDIA- In a heated point’s battle at the I 69 Speedway in Gas City, IN, Chad Boespflug did the best thing he could to regain the top spot, as he powered to his fifth win of the year Friday night aboard Paul Hazen’s No.57 machine.

The 69 pill put Boespflug in the third row of his heat race, and the Hanford, CA native turned Avon, IN resident powered his way up to a third place finish, narrowly missing out on second, putting him in the fifth row of the feature.

In a tight battle with Scotty Weir for the track championship, Boespflug headed into the feature in the mindset of keeping it in one piece, and getting ahead of Weir, but when the green dropped, Boespflug quickly decided to go for the win.

On the fifth lap, Boespflug had successfully gotten around Weir, and as the caution waived on lap six, he had worked his way up to the fourth spot.

When the race resumed, Boespflug quickly moved into the third spot, before he caught second running, Max McGhee.

Getting around McGhee, Boespflug set his sights on race leader, Gary Taylor, and quickly got under him and took the lead in heavy lapped traffic.

Boespflug hit his marks, and went on to grab the feature event win over Shane Cottle.

Saturday night the team headed to Waynesfield, OH for the Jack Hewitt Classic, and it was quite the night.

Timing in third fastest, Boespflug ran second in his heat, putting him in the night’s Dash, where a broken shock knocked him out of the race and he lined up 12th in the feature event.

Having another strong car, Boespflug was able to slowly work himself into the third spot, as he caught the lead duo of Dallas Hewitt, and Matt Westfall.

Moving into the second spot coming to the white flag, Boespflug had a huge run on Hewitt coming to the finish line but Hewitt beat Boespflug by a nose, making it a photo finish.

“It was a great weekend for our team,” Boespflug said. “It was great to win on Friday, and it was a blast racing with a Hewitt for the win on Saturday. I was disappointed we came up short, but it was a blast.”

The Hoosier Race Report: Last Lap Passes

The Hoosier Race Report: Last Lap Passes

Races won on the last lap are dramatic, to say the least. Fans should appreciate hotly contested races where guys race each other hard but clean, where guys respect and trust each other, and where no one can know who will lead the last lap. Surprises often abound in Hoosier bullring/sprint car racing. And so it was at the Putnamville Clash, 26th edition on Saturday night at the Lincoln Park Speedway. Just when one thought that this race would go to 2012 Clash winner Shane Cottle, Chad Boespflug made the pass on the last lap to take home the trophy, the money and, maybe most of all, the prestige of beating one of the best.

For reasons too numerous to even guess, 20 sprints settled into the pits at LPS on a relatively cool evening. The quantity may not have been present, but quality surely was with several potential winners among the 20.

Mr. Cottle was surely one of those as he took the lead from Jeff Bland Jr. on a late re-start in the first heat and won. Dave Darland also got around Bland to take second. Wes McIntyre was fourth with Brian Karrkher, John Nicosen and Jimmy Romig trailing.

Ryan Pace won the second heat as Mr. Boespflug patiently worked his way forward to take second after starting sixth. Brady Short was third with pole sitter Blake Fitzpatrick fourth. Bradley Sterrett, Brandon Mattox and Seth Parker brought up the rear.

Jon Stanbrough led early in the third heat and nearly tipped it over in turn two, losing the lead to young Max McGhee. But the veteran regained his cool (if he even lost it) and came back to win on, yes, the last lap. Behind McGhee was Brent Beauchamp in third. Brian Hayden was fourth with Keeton Dobbs and Levi Shields ending up starting deep in the A Main lineup.

One of the best PA guys I’ve ever heard helped Brad Dickison with the feature lineup. So what if he’s nine years old. Conner Wade, Chuck Amati’s grandson, I do believe, outshone other announcers I’ve heard over the years.

Conner and Brad combined to tell us that Cottle and Pace were the front row for the 30 lap feature. Behind them were Stanbrough, Darland (a Hall of Fame row for sure), Boespflug, McGhee, Bland and Short.

Mayhem commenced early. A seven car pileup stopped matters on the first lap in turn two. It was LPS’s version of the Big One. Collected were McGhee, Hayden, Fitzpatrick, Karrakher, Dobbs, Mattox (who tipped over), and Shields. Hayden, Fitzpatrick and Karrakher re-started.

On the second try Cottle jumped out to the lead with Boespflug coming from fifth to second in one lap. Shane had his hands full and Boespflug passed for the lead on lap six.

Stanbrough had his hands full with a balky left front wheel, probably a broken shock. Funny, but the man raced with basically three wheels better than many with four. However, he gradually dropped back.

Boespflug and Cottle simply checked out from the rest of the pack. Behind Pace, Darland, Short and Beauchamp were all itching to get around the 44. By the halfway mark the two leaders had a half lap lead on Darland, who passed Pace right around lap 12. Short and Beauchamp assumed fourth and fifth spots, chasing Dave the Rave in his new non-USAC Stensland-owned ride.

Lapped traffic played a role as Boespflug first built, then lost a good sized lead over Cottle. But Stanbrough’s car finally gave out and the yellow waved on lap 24 when Jon stopped in turn four, his night done after a hard fought win at Bloomington the night before. The stage was set.

The re-start would be Boespflug, Cottle, Darland, Short, Beauchamp and McIntyre, the only cars on the lead lap. As the green waved Cottle got a good jump and took the lead and promptly began using Boespflug’s high line. But the California native with strong Hoosier roots didn’t give up. He stayed close to the leader and made his move diving around the Epperson 2 going down the backstretch and making it stick through turns three and four. Just as he may have surprised Boespflug when he took the lead, Cottle may have received his own surprise at that point. Either way, neither had anything to be ashamed of; both raced hard and that’s all that anyone can wish to see.

Darland had a much better run than the night before at Gas City, taking third. Short racked up yet another top five finish with a fourth. WesMac got around Beauchamp near the end to take fifth. Pace was seventh and Seth Parker came from 20th to grab hard charger honors and end up eighth. Fitzpatrick came from near disaster on the first lap to finish ninth and Bradley Sterrett rounded out the top ten.

Chad and Shane reminded me (and anyone else who was there) to never, ever leave before the last lap (barring extreme emergency, of course). You never can know what you miss.

Rough Ending to Sprintweek 2013 for Boespflug

PETERSEN MEDIA- 2013 Indiana Sprintweek did not come to a close how Chad Boespflug had hoped. Work held him out of action at the Terre Haute Action Track, and Mother Nature washed out the last night of competition, and sandwiched in between those were an eight place finish and unfortunately a DNQ.

“It wasn’t the week that we had hoped for, but I have to thank the Fox Brother’s, as well as Paul Hazen for giving me a chance to compete,” Boespflug said.

With work holding him from competing at THAT on Wednesday night, Boespflug and Paul Hazen were in action on Thursday night at the Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, IN, where he started his night off by timing in 18th fastest.

Picking up the heat race win, the Avon, IN pilot was able to transfer into the feature event, though he found him in the eighth row.

Driving a smart, and clean race, Boespflug was able to carve his way inside the top-10, as he crossed the finish line in the eighth spot.

Hopping into the Fox Brother’s Racing No. 56 on Friday night at the Bloomington Speedway, Boespflug didn’t have the night he was hoping for with the new team.

A very early draw for qualifications did not help, as being the first car on the track, as he timed in 19thquickest.

Heat race action saw the pole sitter get into Boespflug’s left rear tire, and that gave him a handful to work with, and he was unable to run in a transfer spot, and found himself starting deep in the B main.

Lining up in the fourth row of the B, Boespflug tried to do anything he could on a tough track to pass on, but was unable to make the show, ultimately ending his Sprintweek, as Mother Nature claimed Saturday night’s show.

“It is a bummer the way that our week ended, but it was fun, and like I said, I can’t thank all of the people that helped us out for what they do,” he said. “Looking forward to getting back to work this weekend.”

ON TAP: Boespflug will be in action for three night’s this weekend as he will look to reclaim his points lead at the I 69 Speedway in Gas City, IN on Friday before heading to Putnamville, IN on Saturday for the Putnamville Clash, and finally spending his Sunday at the Kokomo Speedway for the Bob Darland Memorial!

Boespflug Ready For Sprintweek

PETERSEN MEDIA- On the heels of his first career USAC National Sprint Car win, Chad Boespflug is looking forward to Indiana Sprintweek, kicking off on Friday night, as he will pilot his own personal Nine Eight Motorsports machine, as well as the Paul Hazel owned entry.

“I’m very excited to get this week started, and hopefully build off of that first win we got the other night,” the Avon, IN driver said.

The busy week kicks off on Friday night at the Gas City I69 Speedway in Gas Ciy, IN. Boespflug kicks off the week in the Hazen Racing/Physical Medical Consultants/DRC Chassis No.57, before heading to the famed Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, IN on Saturday night.

With Monday and Tuesday being night’s off, Boespflug will trade his helmet in for a pair of bowling shoes as he will participate in 3rd Annual Sprintweek Super Bowl benefiting Courty Cares at the Brownsburg Bowl.

Following the charity event, action picks back up on Wednesday at the Terre Haute Action Track once again in the No.98 machine before hopping in the No.57 machine at the Lincoln Park Speedway on Thursday night, the scene of that first win just a few nights ago.

Friday night Boespflug will pilot the Hazen entry at the Bloomington Speedway before the busy week comes to a close as he pilots the Nine Eight Motorsports machine at the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.

“It is always a fun and grueling week,” he said. “I have a great opportunity to drive for Paul Hazen, and it should take some pressure off of the both of us with the both of us running our cars through the week.”
