Successful Smackdown Return for Boespflug

Plainfield, IN - Chad Boespflug returned behind the wheel of the Amati Racing, Inc. 66 this past weekend after being cleared to race again. Four nights of intense racing with the best in non wing sprint car competition began Wednesday with a makeup feature event from Indiana Sprint Week. Already locked into the makeup feature event they would use that as some what of a test and tune for the remainder of the weekend.

Chad lined up 5th and was running 7th with three laps to go in the feature event when he felt something wasn't right with the car so he pulled in and was scored 18th. Thursdayand Friday night were full Amsoil USAC style shows beginning with time trials, followed by qualifying heat races, and main events. The event drew over 40 Amsoil USAC Sprint Cars for all three nights of competition.

Thursday, Night 1 of Smackdown Chad went out second to last to take time and laid down a second quick lap, missing quick time by just under 3000th of a second. Timing well is an advantage after making it through qualifying heat races but a disadvantage to starting position in qualifying heat races. The better the time the deeper one starts in a heat race, thus making the racing more exciting having the quicker cars come from deeper. Chad missed the transfer by once position finishing 5th after starting 6th in his heat race. He went on to win the b-main and earn an 8th place starting position in the a-main. A strong start had him chasing down the top five before an ignition box failure caused Chad to drop to 12th on the final laps.

Friday night started off with another good time trial effort, timing 7th quick out of 42 cars. A faster car in heat race action landed Chad a starting spot in the a-main straight from the heat race finishing 4th after starting 5th. Feature lineups revert back to time trial times so with a good time trial lap Chad made the invert for the a-main and started 3rd. An early race incident between fellow races Justin Grant and Scotty Weir saw Chad with nowhere to go as they got together in front of him to avoid getting into the back of Grant. Chad would rejoin the field at the tail and race his way back from 20th to 9th when a slower paced car got sideways in front of him. Chad clipped the slower car and as aresult spun out and brought out the caution. A tough break and very disappointing finish for Chad and the Amati Team as they had a car capable for passing cars, but fell victim of circumstance. Chad was scored 18th for Friday's event.

Accumulated points from both Thursday and Friday nights events were tallied prior to the start of Saturday's Smackdown Finale. The top 8 in points were locked into the "King of the Hill" challenge and guaranteed a starting position in the a-main. Chad was 10th overall out of 44 cars just missing the guaranteed starting spot. He then had to race his way into the main event through a qualifier win which the top two transferred on. Chad started 1st and finished 2nd in the qualifier locking him into the $10,000 to win a-main. The a-main lineup would be heads up according to finishing position tailing the "King of the Hill" cars, Chad started 14th. After dropping back to 17th early Chad found his preferred line on the track. He then began making his way back through the field and just shy of a top 10 finish, finishing 12th.

The weekend had its fair share of ups and downs both on and off the track.  Some mechanical issues and then being at the wrong place at the wrong time on the track didn't see the best results each night. Overall Chad and the Amati Team are pleased with their performance and happy to have made all feature events.

Chad also competed in the Kick-it For Children's Cancer Kickball Game Saturday as well . The game, dunk tank, and live auction went on to raise over $15,000. Images from the event can be found below.
